Creating Content Definitions
To create a content definition item, follow these steps:
Creating Content Definition Items in the Library.
- Go to the Content Library.
- In the left pane, create a folder to hold your new Content Definition items if an appropriate one does not already exist.
- Otherwise navigate to the folder where you want to store your items.
- In the right pane, click Create New.
- In the resulting popup on the left type in a name for your Content definition as well as an optional description.
- On the right, choose the type of Content Definition you want from the dropdown list. Your options are:
- Blog Post
- Callout
- Callout Buttons
- Feature
- Free Form
- iFrame
- Location
- Photo
- Photo Item
- Promo
- Slider Item
- Tabbed Content
- Testimonial
- Timelines (Facebook, Twitter)
- YouTube Video
- Choose the type of item that you want from the drop-down list.
Note that most of these Content Definitions can only be accessed through the Content Library where they will be used as part of Widgets. A few can be placed directly on the page, but only in certain areas, such as videos in the main content column, while Twitter and Facebook timelines can only be used in a right column. Some you will not edit directly at all, such as locations.
- A Manage Content Definition dialog appropriate to the selected type of content definition appears: They will all have slightly different fields for managing the Content Definition.
- Complete the Manage Content Definition properties as appropriate. More detailed instructions on each are below.
- Click Save. iAPPS Content Manager then stores the content definition in the selected directory.
Placing a Content Definition in Site Editor
To place a Content Definition directly on page, go to Site Editor.
- If you are not already in Edit Mode, click the Edit icon on the Site Editor top toolbar.
- Click the Edit (Pencil) icon next to the container you want to edit and select .
- If you have not already created a content definition, choose Create Content Definition. The system will then ask you what type of Content Definition you want. Your options will be limited depending on which template and column you are using.
- Choose the type of item that you want from the drop-down list.
- A Manage Content Definition dialog appropriate to the selected type of content definition appears: They will all have slightly different fields for managing the Content Definition.
- Complete the Manage Content Definition properties as appropriate. More detailed instructions on each type are below and in the widgets section.
- Click Save. The Save Content dialog appears:
- Select a directory in which to store the content definition, enter a title for it and click Select Directory.
(Note: Saving the Content Definition in the Content Library preserves its formatting and placement information – it is not the same process as saving an image or a file that might be used within the Content Definition, which reside in other data libraries.)
- The iAPPS Content Manager then:
- Stores the content definition in the selected directory, and
- Displays the content definition in the content definition container on the page.
- Save as Draft or Publish the Page to preserve your changes.
