Managing the Content Definitions Library

A Content Definition is an XML form that enables users to enter content in a specific pre-defined format. They are uploaded by Developers to the libraries and also configured by users in Site Editor when they add the Content Definitions to a page.

In the Content Definitions Library, you can perform the following tasks:.

For all these tasks ensure you are in the Content Definitions Library by selecting Manage Site Assets > For Developers > Content Definitions from the main navigation menus.

Content Definitions Library

The Content Definitions screen displays the following:

The listing displays the following information about each file:

Title Name of content definition file in CMS
Description Brief explanation of the contents or use of this content definition
File Names Name of physical .XML file associated with this content definition and any XSLT associated with it.
Upload Data The user who last uploaded or edit the file and the date it was uploaded/edited
Status Active or Archived

Active files can be selected for use in a page. Archived content definition files exist in the library but cannot be selected for use in a page.

 

ClosedAdding a Content Definition to the Library

To add a content definition template:

  1. In the Content Definitions Library, highlight the node in the directory where you want to upload the new Content Definition.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. The Add New Content Definition modal appears.
  4. Enter the following information:
  • Title for the File
  • Description
  • XML File - The XML file for the CD
  • XSLT file to style the CD.
  • Theme (if applicable).
  1. For each file, click Browse.
  2. In the resulting uploading file dialog, navigate to where you have stored the file on your computer, highlight and click Open.
  3. When you have uploaded both the XML and the XSLT, click Save.
  4. The new content definition template appears in the list.

 

ClosedEditing a Content Definition

To add a content definition template:

  1. In the Content Definitions Library, highlight the Definition you want to edit properties for.
  2. The Edit Content Definition modal appears.
  3. Edit the following information:
  • Title for the File
  • Description
  • XML File - The XML file for the CD
  • XSLT file to style the CD.
  • Theme (if applicable).
  1. If you wan to upload new XML or XSLT, for each file, click Browse.
  2. In the resulting uploading file dialog, navigate to where you have stored the file on your computer, highlight and click Open.
  3. When you have uploaded both the XML and the XSLT, click Save.
  4. The edited content definition template appears in the list.

The fields for the selected content definition template become editable:

 

ClosedArchiving / Making a Content Definition Active

iAPPS does not delete an archived content definition template, but makes it unavailable by moving it to an archived folder.

To archive/make active a content definition:

  1. Highlight the name of a content definition and select Archive or Make Active as appropriate.
  2. Content Manager changes the status it displays for the content definition file in the content definition library list.
  3. You can filter to display only archived files or active files using the Status drop-down filter.
