Adding a New RSS Channel

You can create the following types of RSS channels:

To add a new RSS channel:

  1. Select Manage Site Assets > Engagement Tools > RSS Feeds and Channels from the main navigation menu.
  2. In the RSS Feeds and Channels Screen, ensure you are viewing RSS Channels by clicking the appropriate Tab.
  3. Click Add New.
  1. A blank Add/Edit Channel screen appears:

  1. Specify the channel properties as described in the following table:

 

Channel Properties
Channel Property Description
Title Enter a title to name this channel.
URL This should be the URL that would allow users to link to the feed source. For example, if your feed is drawing from a news listings page, you would want to include the URL for that page.
Icon To select an image to use as an icon for this channel, click Select an image in the resulting Insert Image from Library dialog.

- Select a directory.

- Locate the image to use in the images list for the selected directory.

- Click on the image and choose Select Image.

The path and filename of the selected image appears in the Icon Field in the properties pane.

Admin Email Email address of the channel administrator. This is required for RSS.
Description Enter a brief description of the contents or use of this channel.
Link to:

Directory (Auto) or Build Manually.

  • Directory: Automatically creates items from all of the pages in the selected menu directory.
  • Build Manually: Allows you to add items by manually selecting pages from a directory.

Chose the radio button for your selected option.

  • For an Automatic List:
  1. Click Select Directory.
  2. In the resulting menu listing, click on the menu directory which contains the pages you want to use as items for this list.
  3. Click Select Directory.
  4. The directory path appears under the radio buttons.
  • For a Manual List:
    1. Click Add List Items.
    2. Navigate to the menu directory which contains the pages you want to use as items for this list.
    3. Check the box next to the items that you want to add to the channel.
    4. Chose Add Items above the center content list pane. Your items will appear in the Page List pane on the right. You can click the X icon to remove an item if you wish.
    5. Click Save at the bottom of the screen.
    6. The pages you have chosen will appear in the Channel Preview pane.
Maximum Items

Enter the maximum number of pages from the selected directory to display as channel items.

Leave field blank to display all pages.

 

Additional Automatic RSS Options
Channel Property Description
Order by

You can choose the display order for the feed items from the drop-down list. Options are None; Title; Description; Created Date

• Click the appropriate radio button to select to display pages in ascending or descending order according to the order by criteria.

Filter

You can filter the feed to only show items with specific tags.

• Click the check box beside the Tag folder or term to add . If you select a folder, a confirmation dialog appears, prompting you to specify whether you want to add all tags in the folder.

Publish Date

Optionally, specify a publish date on which this channel will be available for use with one of the following options:

Publish Between

• Click the radio button and specify a publish date range.

Remove When Older Than

• Click the Remove radio button and chose a date option from the drop-down list.

None

• Click the None radio button to not specify a publish date.

 

  1. To preview your automatic listing, click the Update Preview button.
    Content Manager populates the Channel Preview pane with a list of pages from the selected directory.
  2. For both Automatic and Manual RSS channels, click Save Channel to save the new channel. You will receive a confirmation at the top of the screen. Click Cancel to return to the main channel listing.
