Common Words

Common words are words such as I, THE, IT, IS that frequently appear in documents but do not have significant meaning. They are excluded from searches in order to save indexing space and speed up results.

You will need to amend the Common Word list if you wish to perform searches using words search engines automatically define as common. This functionality is provided in the Search Configurations UI in v5.1, (Administration > Search Configurations > Common Words) but will need to be done manually by a developer for earlier versions of iAPPS.

Editing Common Words

The Common Words screen (Administration > Search Configurations > Common Words) displays the current list of Common Words (a, the, and, about, etc. ).

You can filter (search) the list by keyword or show fewer or more words on each screen using the Show Drop-down at the top right.

To Add a new Common Word:

1. Click Add New.
2. Add any new Common words you want in the Text Area and Click Save. You can add multiple words separated by semi-colons.

To delete a Common Word:

1. Highlight a word in the list and click Delete.
