Site Variants and Multi-site Features
iAPPS makes it easy to create and manage variants of your existing site or create multiple sites, all of which can be managed from the same iAPPS Admin UI.
Variant Sites
A Variant Site is based on an existing iAPPS site (the Master Site. Users can import pages from a Master site (your main iAPPS site) to a variant. They can easily share assets without additional setup and can use the same workflow process.
- Variant sites can be added to iAPPS using sub-domains or paths. So for example, if you want to add a French language site to an existing site, your URL can be www.fr.company.com or www.company.com/fr
- While there are many uses for variants of an existing site, the most common use will be a language variant. iAPPS will help users manage content across all your site, interface with third-party translation services, and set up workflows to ensure content is checked before publication across multiple sites.
Multi-sites
iAPPS also features multi-site setup, in which iAPPS Users can manage sites with different URLs and domain names, such as www.company.com and www.compagnie.fr. Sites can be completely separate or can be configured to share some content.
Multiple sites are also used in iAPPS Commerce. Website viewers see different storefronts, but both sites can be managed with the same catalog and using the same interface in iAPPS. See the developer documentation for more detail.
See "Managing Sites"for more information on multi sites.
What's best for our site?
Both Variant Sites (microsites) and Multi sites are managed via the same drop-down interfaces both in Site Editor and in the iAPPS admin view. While the sites are managed on the back end quite differently, day-to-day users will not see much difference in the iAPPS user interface.
Which type of site is best for your organization will typically be decided during the design and development phase. iAPPS developer documentation has richer detail on the features of each type of implementation.
Only Site Administrators or Installation Administrators can create or delete either micro (variant) or multi sites.
