Managing Menus

Only Administrators can change permissions levels on a directory item.

To view or edit which groups or users have permissions on a menu and its associated pages:

1. Highlight the menu item.
2. Click the lock icon above the menu tree to view or edit permissions.
3. Manage Permissions displays, showing you current users and their permissions on the site.

 

You can switch from viewing Users to Viewing/Editing Group permissions by choosing from the drop-down menu on the upper right.

Note: Only users who can have custom permissions will appear on the list of users. So universal users such as Content Administrators will not appear as they have permissions on the directory item by default.

4. For each user or group, check the box next to the permissions you wish to assign.
   1. To quickly clear a row of permission, check Clear All.
   2. Options include

• Approver
• Publisher
• Archiver
• Nav Editor
• Import from Master.
• Author

If you have permissions, you will also see an option to add a new user or group in the upper left of the modal box.

5. Click Save and Close or Save as appropriate.

 

To rename a menu item:

1. Navigate through the Menu structure to find the menu node under which you want a new menu. (Click the arrow to the left of a Menu Group to expand it, if necessary).
2. Highlight the Menu item.
3. Click Add Node (+ Icon).
4. A new node will appear at the bottom of the selected Menu Group
5. Edit the menu item name and press Enter on your keyboard to save.
6. Once the Node is created, you will need to highlight it and click Edit Properties to select the Menu's target or connect it to a page.

Alternatively, from Site Editor, you can also create a new menu item.

1. Ensure you are in Edit Mode by clicking the Edit icon on the Site Editor top toolbar.
2. Navigate to the existing Menu Item where you want to add a new Item
3. Click the Edit Icon next to it and select Create Menu from the list.
4. The Add Menu Item popup will appear displaying the Menu Properties. Here you can choose not only the Menu name, but its behavior and target. See "Viewing / Editing Menu Properties" for more details.

Depending on how your site navigation is set up, some sub-menus may not appear while in Site Editor. If your site was designed to only show two levels of menu items, and your new menu is on a third level, it will not appear in Site Editor or on the live site.

To rename a menu item:

1. Navigate through the Menu structure to find the menu node you want. (Click the arrow to the left of a Menu Group to expand it, if necessary).
2. Highlight the Menu item.
3. Click Edit Node (Pencil Icon).
4. Edit the menu item name and press the Enter key to save.

 

If you are in Site Editor. you should choose View / Edit Properties from the Edit context menu, and you can rename it there. See "Viewing / Editing Menu Properties" for more details,

1. Navigate through the Menu structure to find the menu node you want to delete. (Click the arrow to the left of a Menu Group to expand it, if necessary).
2. Highlight the Menu item.
3. Click Delete Node (Trash Can Icon).
4. Content Manager displays a confirmation dialog. Click OK to confirm that you want to delete the menu item or Cancel to keep it.

If you simply do not want a menu to show on the front end, you do not have to delete it. Instead you can make the menu item "invisible," which means it will appear in Site Editor's Edit mode, but visitors to your website will not see it. You can make a menu item invisible or hide it from Search in the Menu Properties.

Note: you cannot delete a node that has pages associated with it. Before deleting you must first move or delete those pages.

You can not delete a menu item from Site Editor, only from Menus & Pages. You can remove a menu item (which removes the menu from the group, but doesn't delete the node) if your developer has added that functionality to your menu structure.
