Before Your First Email Campaign

Marketier allows you to organize all the data for your email campaigns. This data includes your email templates; your contacts such as iAPPS Marketier users; customers or sales contacts associated with marketing emails; your email content, histories and responses.

The following table includes a roadmap of steps you need to perform prior to using Marketier to create and send emails. Most of these will need to be set up by a Marketier Administrator prior to creating the first email campaign.  If you are a regular user, these tasks will likely have already been done for you and you can get started creating emails and managing your contacts.

Setup

Description

Marketier Users

Marketier supports multiple users and comes with a number of default user roles that provide different Marketier functionality.

Assign people who will be using Marketier to the appropriate user roles for the Marketier functionality they need.

In Marketier, select Administration > Marketier Users.

See "Managing Marketier Users"

Workflows

Marketier allows you to create workflows, which allow you to:

  • Create a sequence of steps associated with the development and use of emails. (A Marketier workflow can include steps for reviewing and publishing an email campaign.)
  • Assign specific users or groups to perform each of the steps in the workflow.

To use workflows in Marketier:

  • Determine required workflows based on the various user roles within your organization.
  • Create a new workflow, if necessary. Select Administration > Workflows.

See "Managing Marketier Workflows"

Watched Events

You can assess the effectiveness of an email campaign by using Watched Events. To specify Watched Events, you must use the iAPPS Analyzer module. You can select as a Watched Event for a campaign any Watched Event you created in iAPPS Analyzer. Watched Events include user activity such as downloads, purchases, registrations and so forth.

To create a Watched Event for email campaigns:

  • Determine whether an appropriate exists in iAPPS Analyzer
  • Create new Watched Event, if necessary

In Analyzer, select Watched Events > and chose the type of Watch you want.

See "Managing Watched Events" for more information on creating Watched Events.

Email templates

The format of the emails that you send through Marketier is based on templates. A developer will have created custom email templates for you.

To review existing email templates, select: Manage Message Assets > Email Templates or small previews will appear as part of the Email Wizard as you create your emails.

Contacts

The iAPPS Contacts Database stores contact information keyed to the iAPPS module through which it entered the database: Marketier, Commerce, or Content Manager.  You can send Marketier emails to database contacts from any iAPPS module, but can edit contact information only for contacts keyed to Marketier, that is contacts entered into the database through Marketier and are only Marketier contacts.

The set of contacts to which you send emails may include prospects imported from other databases.

Prior to sending an email, you need to add any contacts not yet in the database who you want to target. To populate your Marketier contacts database you can:

  • Manually enter contacts
  • Import contacts from .CSV files or from Salesforce.com (web-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software)

In addition, you can create Distribution Lists that include only the contacts that you want to receive a particular email (for example, a holiday sale email) or type of email (for example, sales events, informational, promotional).

To populate your Marketier Contacts database and create distribution lists, in Marketier select: Contacts > Add New Contact (to manually add contacts), or Contacts > Import Contacts. See "Managing Contacts and Contact Lists" for details.

Responses

Responses are similar to emails but are not scheduled.  Instead they are triggered by user actions on the site such as purchasing a product or submitting a contact form.  Responses can also be tied to a Watched Event that is configured in iAPPS Analyzer.

To setup or edit a response, in Marketier, select: Autoresponsers > Add/ Edit Responses. See "Managing Responses"
